Me and my twin decided to make a cake for our Dad's 67th birthday this weekend - we spent 5 hours baking this - totally worth it!

A Certain Curiosity

A drawing I made on the floor. I made it by drawing round a bank card lots of times, in a repetitive motion. 

I then proceeded to wash it off. Thinking about time, repetition and the everyday.

I am very excited about my latest project! I had an idea to create an art piece made of string, to glue string to a surface in an intricate pattern, with each small section of the string symbolising something. Then I would have a key at the bottom to illustrate it. I did a practice one and it turned out better than I thought. I decided to do it about suicide, as this is a matter close to my heart. I measured out the string and divided it by the number of people who lost their lives to suicide in 2006. Take a look!!

I've been very unmotivated so far this summer, so I'm gonna start blogging again (even if noone's listening!)..

I have recently got into taking photographs with two lenses for some reason. I've been holding my 50mm lens in front of my camera which has a 28-80mm lens on.. probably very dodge, but it has turned it into a macro lens effectively. Very strange. I should look into this.

This was when we set our placards and boards down in the place where it all started, for our photographs and concept to be scrutinised by our peers and the general public!

So, for our final exhibition, we wanted to have an impact as we had been trying to do with our protests. So, we planned to hide behind the cathedral, which is near to our exhibition site at the clock (we took a trip beforehand to see where would be good). We wanted to do this so that nobody would see us and guess what was coming. We waiting for about 5 minutes after meeting time so that our peers and tutors might be wondering where we were. Then, we came round the corner chanting WHAT DO WE WANT!? ... An exhibition!! .. WHEN DO WE WANT IT?! ..Now!! with our placards and boards in hand.

This was nearing the end of our 'Don't stop me in the street' protest, where we had some people who we didn't know come and join our cause!

Saturday 5th March - our third and final protest..

We aimed to make this our best protest as it was the final and we wanted to go out with a bang!

We had about 15 people in the end doing it, which was better as it had more of an impact. However, it rained and a lot of people (the public) were just keeping their heads down and rushing to get where they were going and therefore, I think if it hadn't been raining then it would've been better.

Overall, I think our protests were successful. We got some brilliant reactions from people, and hopefully got people thinking ( as most people are so used to seeing big protests about political topics, e.g. student fees) and we got some great photographs from the events too, which we will use for our exhibition on the 9th March. This will be held, again, at the Eastgate clock, and we will put the photographs on placards and on a big board for more of an impact.

This is a photograph taken by Sharon Mosey, a member of our collaborative group, during our 'Fair deal for the over 50's' protest on our second day of protesting, on the 16th February. We had a lot of cheering us on for this one, unlike during our 'Plaster the wife's mouth up', where we had some rather negative responses.

First protest - 9th Feb

The first protest went better than I had expected. First we protested on behalf of a man selling the Big Issue magazines, where we chanted 'Down with Man U Mark' up to the Cross near St.Peter's church. It was quite nerve racking at first, especially being at the front and having lots of (confused) eyes glaring at you, but once I got into it, it was quite liberating and fun, which I hadn't anticipated.

Next, a lady (see above) gave us 'Down with steps, up with ramps', as she was a wheelchair user and struggled getting about. The reaction of the public was very positive with this one, with a lot of people cheering us on and agreeing with the protest. Another woman came up to us with a pram and was rallying to our cause.
